You don’t have to dread “working out”. In fact, there are many ways for you to stay active without ever hitting the gym.

While many people spend most of their days sitting in a chair, there are still things you can do to during work hours to give your body a little exercise without breaking a sweat.

Too often we assume that in order to work out we have to set aside a specific amount of time, but there are lots of different things you can do that that will help you meet your fitness goals.

1. Going for a family walk

Take the kids out for a stroll. Go for a nice walk around the block, or find a park with some great views and enjoy the outdoors.

2. Walk, or jog while you’re out shopping

You don’t have to sprint around the mall, but walking at a brisk pace is better than sluggishly stepping along. Mix it up a bit, and hustle from store to store. Your body will thank you, and so will your significant other.

3. While watching TV, take a stroll during commercial breaks

Commercial breaks last around three to five minutes, which is plenty of time to get a little jog in. Plus, you can probably pause the TV, so it’s not like you’ll miss anything!

4. Take a nice bike ride

Hop on the bicycle, and cruise around. Soak in the sights, and get in some cardio. Just be sure to wear a helmet!

5. Dance to your favorite music

This one is probably my favorite thing to do, so it’s good to know that dancing is a very healthy activity. Take a page out of Kevin Jame’s playbook for reference (just don’t copy him in public).

6. When on the phone, walk around

When you need to make that long phone call to mom don’t waste that time staying seated on the couch. Get up, and go for a walk. Half an hour later you’ll have gotten a nice little workout in.
