When getting in a solid workout, rest time between sets often goes overlooked. As long as the sets are getting done, does it really matter how long it takes? The answer is a resounding YES!

Rest time between sets, I’d argue, is just as important as using good form in a lift. Without it there are so many benefits being lost. Whether you are trying to burn fat or gain strength, the rest time can vary and by not resting correctly you could be missing out on some major results.

Experts suggest that while trying to burn fat, rest time is your enemy. Continuous workouts, little-to-no rest between sets, and cardio are the keys to shedding those last few pounds before summer. The 30-seconds-or-less rule comes into play here, but caution on the side of lighter weight to be sure you are finishing sets.

However, when it’s time to get those muscles pumping and build some strength the opposite is true. About a 60 second rest period between workouts has shown to provide the highest levels of testosterone during a workout. This helps build, sculpt, and strengthen those focus areas.

Rest doesn’t always seem productive, but when done correctly it can be yet another aspect to having a successful workout.
