Eating late in the night is a taboo. As a matter of fact, it is a practice highly discouraged by medical experts from all across the globe.

As you will later on realize, there are numerous studies that have proved nigh time feeding a pain in the neck and here are the reasons why. Late night meals encourage weight gain.

Secondly, your chances of developing type 2 diabetes increases by the minute given that insulin and glucose spike up when you are asleep. Thirdly and most dangerous of all, you face the risk of developing heart disease.

From the look of things, late-night feeding does your body more harm than good. Unfortunately, many people still doubt despite having the right facts at hand.

The good news, however, is that there are numerous studies conducted on the topic that back up the above-mentioned claims.

For example, a study conducted by the University of Pennsylvania revealed that late night eating causes type diabetes and heart disease. It was also noted that such a practice increases body cholesterol levels turning a bad situation into worse.

Scientists, in yet another research, determined that poor timing during meals results to grave health consequences. Findings obtained after investigating how 9 adults respond to irregular servings showed that nighttime feeders were the most affected.

They not only gained weight but also experienced a significant rise in their glucose and insulin levels. Day time feeders, on the other hand, got stuffed and for long because of hormonal responses.

From the look of things, night feeding is a mess and here are some other reasons why you should adjust your eating habits.

Night time feeding can affect your memory

Late night snacking can affect your memory negatively, well according to the University of California. Additionally, nigh time feeding affects your ability to create memories that last.

You develop strange dreams

Sleep patterns and dreams are altered when you have your meal late in the night. Recall, gastrointestinal issues develop when you are in a state of rest meaning you might never get to sleep when you stuff your body with calories late in the night.

Night time stuffing increases your risk of experiencing a heart attack

Researchers at Dokuz Eylul University have determined that eating past the 7 PM hour mark increases your chances of suffering a fatal heart attack.

For your information, late-night feeding spikes your blood pressure levels and these levels do not subside until the next day. Dr. Ebru Ozpeli from Dokuz Eylul University, therefore, encourages you to eat a couple of hours before you go to sleep.

Late night eating and acid reflex

Sleeping before the digestion process is complete harms your body and in more ways than you will ever know. Why is that the case? The acid in your stomach spills into your esophagus once you lie down.

Acid reflex problems develop thereafter causing you a lot of pain and suffering in their wake. Therefore, it is always important that you time your feeding routine well especially in the night to avoid messing your body up.

Hunger and late night feeding

Feeding late in the night is discouraged and I will let you know why. You, as you sleep, produce more insulin in your body.

The high insulin levels then force your body to produce more glucose and that is why you often feel starved after waking up.

This process, if it happens regularly, causes you to add more weight as hunger can only be suppressed through eating.
